James Nachtwey has a lot of interesteing photographs on his site. They generally deal with world issues (war, AIDS, 9-11, etc) and some aren't exactly pleasant to look at.

Watches your computer and notifies your "Accountability Partners" when you look at porn. This is like the most useful thing ever. See, you can set it up to notify your parents and then they'll be like "Ah, man... Junior is looking at porn again."

Premiere Magazine has their list of their top 100 movie characters. Pretty interesting list and they have a lot of good ones on there, but they are missing a few good ones. Like Ash from the Evil Dead series, or characters from the Princess Bride... I mean I'm pretty ok with the list but having Ace Ventura on there? And higher than "Verbal" Klint? :O

Identifont posted by bichen
Identifont allows you to figure identify fonts. You know when you see a font and wonder just what font it is? Well, this one will ask you questions about the font and then tell you which one it is. Questions like "Does the line in the Q extend past the O part?" (There's pictures to help).

Sapphire is a new chemical invention that people are hoping to use to fight fires. It's a liquid that's not "wet". It's not "wet" in that it doesn't get absorbed into most materials so if you dip a paper into Sapphire, you can pull the paper out, shake it off and the paper will be undamaged. Pretty cool concept, isn't it?

Ruby Bustamante, a 5 year old girl, was found 10 days (estimated) after being in a car accident that killed her mother. She ate dried noodles and drank Gatorade while sitting in the car with her mother's decomposing (badly decomposed by the time they found Ruby) corpse nearby (it had been thrown out of the car during the accident). Why did it take them so long to find them? Well, the accident was caused by driving off of a cliff, but even then, they were reported missing days ago...

Edit: Oops, I forgot to include a link and the LA Times article has more details than the original CNN one I was going to use so I'll link that and correct this article.
Edit: Here is a follow up article. Wow, how depressing. The little girl thought her mom was just sleeping, and apparently the mother survived the impact? :-(

Is 2004 a good year to get out of the American manga business? (Manga being Japanese comics - American manga business being American companies releasing the Japanese comics translated into English). At least one guy in the industry thinks so. But why? Right now, manga is doing very well, out selling American-brand comics like X-Men. Well, this guy wants to get out, not because he thinks the market is going to bomb, but more so because he's disenchanted with the way manga is treated and sold here. Interesting read.

Best Buy is having a sale if you buy Kill Bill vol. 1 and Resevior Dogs on DVD, you get both for $20 and shipping is free. You still need to pay tax though. But still, not a bad deal considering Kill Bill vol. 1 usually goes for $17-20 alone, and Resevoir Dogs is a great movie in itself.

Loft Cube posted by bichen
The Loftcube was a project by a few Germans who were curious about the feasibility of using the roof tops of skyscrapers as living space. To achieve this they would build Loftcubes on the roofs and have these Loftcubes be essentially a complete living space. Check it out, it's pretty neat.

Japan wins in weirdness of porn. I'm not sure why, but they seem to have a big thing with rape. And most people have heard of bukkake (many many men cumming on a girl's face), and how scat (poop sex) is strangely prevalent there. But there's oh so much more! Here's a list and you won't be disappointed. The site is safe for work, but be careful of the links ON the site since clicking on them can reveal some not safe for work things. But I'll leave you with one of the stranger things:
KARATE GIRLS VS. RAPE TEAM: a really really wrong series of videos from the Soft On Demand company. Like practically everything else here, i've never seen it. but here's a description from the website NANPA'S PLACE:

"A warning - this tape isn't for everyone. Two very lovely ladies who also are black belts take on a challenge. They are to face 5 men in matches. The men are dressed only in boxers and a helmet. The ladies are dressed in Karate gear and are wearing light boxing gloves. The challenge: if the ladies outlast the men for 5 minutes, they win $100 for the first, $500 for the second, $1000 for the third and $2000 for the fourth. If they can outlast all 5, they will win $5000. If the men are able to strip them naked in that time, then its back to cave man days and the ladies are fair game for the whole community - a 20 person bukake/gang bang. The ladies are really tough fighers, but the men can smell sex. This is very close to rape, but it isn't entirely non-consensual. The ladies knew what they were getting into and while they were hoping not to be in the middle of a gang bang, it is clear at the end of the day that nobody is really hurt. A very distinctive tape."
Not quite "normal" by our standards, eh?

If you've ever downloaded files off of Kazaa, then you might know that sometimes what you download isn't what you get. And sometimes things are so horribly mislabeled it's crazy. One guy decided to do a test where he came up with weird, messed up names to see if anyone would download it. Here are his results. But I'm not really sure about this though since I know Kazaa will search off of things other than the file name. For example, if I'm looking for an MP3 of Billy Joel, and you have it but you renamed it "Sluts eating Bulldozers while rolling around in fecal matter" then I think it'll still show up for me to download because it also looks at the MP3 tags in the file. :-/

A father with a baby boy finds celebrities and has them pose with his kid, Jeremy, making this interesting mix of photos. I wonder who the father is though, because it sounds like he's on the fringe of the entertainment industry. Still, it's pretty neat how he's able to get so many celebrities to do it.

NIRO claims to have a one speaker surround sound system. That's right. One speaker, a DVD player, and a subwoofer and you get surround sound. I don't know if it's true and I can't imagine how it works. Sounds kind of hokey, but who knows.
